Calmar Prairie Players New Hit: The Dangers of VD (Valentines Day)

Pipestone Flyer

The cast of The Dangers of VD (Valentines Day) from back left to right: Nicole Sullivan as Jacqui Dyck, an overdramatic, boy crazed young lady that just can’t wait to be a grown up; Kelly Ainsworth as Jean Witherspoon, a wanton sex-pot out to destroy her sister’s marriage;

Leah Keller as Paulette Dyck, a loved starved middle aged married woman married to an accountant with nothing but numbers on his mind, (or so it would seem); Mike Keindel as Henry Dyck, the accountant who seems to be oblivious to his wife’s advances. Katherine Le Sieur in her very first production, playing the role of a restaurant waitress. Front: Cindy Thornton as, Mildred “Gran” Dyck, and Chris McKerracher as George “Gramps” Dyck.

Every rare now and then we come upon something worth real accolades. Such was the latest play presented by the Calmar Prairie Players last Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Calmar Royal Canadian Legion.  The play, “The Dangers of VD (Valentines Day) was written by local playwright, friend and columnist, Chris McKerracher and directed by Kelsey Spears.

    Anytime one takes in such an event there is the danger of giving credit only to a certain individual, especially if there is a friend or acquaintance involved. Although I must say that Chris did stand out because of his antics on stage and of course the fact that he did end up in his skivvies. A huge kudos must go out to the entire cast including the ones behind the scene that helped to make the whole thing work like a well oiled machine.

    The play centered on the bedroom antics (and lack thereof) of the Dyck family. Grandpa Dyck, played by Chris, accidently ingests a quantity of Viagra meant for a younger member of the family and the whole thing goes downhill, or was that uphill, from there.

    The whole evening was very pleasant indeed, right down to the great meal served by Bob Ronnie catering.

Kudos to all…
