Millet Harvest Fair

Pipestone Flyer

The Town of Millet Council and Administration started off the Harvest fair with a BBQ on Friday, from noon till 2:30 pm with hamburgers and hot dogs. The food was cooked with tender loving care by the Mayor, Rob Lorensen, and the Director of Public Services, Don Gilmet. From there, people filed into the Agriplex, bringing their wares to display at the bench show on Saturday. Then, at 6:00 pm, the Millet Lions Hall was opened for an open house, with hot dogs on the menu.

At dusk, the outdoor movie, ‘The Croods’ was viewed by a number of families despite the inclement weather. They bundled up, and came to watch. After the movie, the ever popular fireworks finished off the first day.

Saturday, starting bright and early, the Millet Legion held their annual pancake breakfast. After having a good breakfast, it was off to set up your lawn chair for the parade about to start. At 11:00 am sharp, the parade began on 53 Ave. and 51 St., working its way down to the Community Centre, then to the Legion, past the soccer fields, onto 616, then dispersing at the Agriplex.

The day then followed inside the Agriplex with the bench show, trade show, live theatre entertainment and bird house building. Outside was a petting zoo, tractor obstacle course and a vehicle extraction by the Millet Fire Department. After a day of fun and activities, the Millet Ag Society held their annual supper, auction and entertainment. Starting at 5:00 pm with a silent/live auction, a homemade beef supper with all the trimmings, provided by our own local volunteers, and entertainment by William James, the Travelling Comedy Game show.

To end off a hectic weekend, a multi-denominational church service was held at the Community centre on Sunday at 10:30 am.
