A sure sign that summer is coming to an end is the annual Rock the Rails held at the skate park in Leduc. This will be the event’s 8th year and a number of changes have been made to improve the activity. The day has been changed from Thursday to Saturday and the Battle of the Bands portion has been replaced with a DJ.
The 2014 version of Rock the Rails will be held on Saturday, August 23rd with participants having until August 22nd to register online at www.rocktherails.com. The competition will begin with scooters kicking everything off at 11:30am, followed by Skateboard competitors showing their stuff beginning at 12:30pm, and ending with BMX enthusiasts displaying their skills at 2pm.
New features to the event will include an X-treme slip n’ slide and laser tag opportunities, along with Graf Art Camps and a Resource Fair. Those under 18 are required to have signed parental consent forms. All activities will conclude at 3pm with awards being presented at 3:30pm.
It is expected that Rock the Rails will draw approximately 1500 spectators with no admission charges. The event will take place at the Skateboard Park and will be monitored by Community Peace Officers for noise levels and general safety. Rock the Rails is pleased to be partnering with Mud Sweat & Gears, MADD Gear, Rumor Skate & Snow, and Louden Laboratories who provide gear, their expertise, and prizes.
Should the weather be unfavourable, the event will be postponed or cancelled. This event will celebrate Leduc’s local youth talent, while providing a safe activity for Leduc’s young people with the hopes that they will get more involved in the community. For spectators, it is an opportunity to see the skill level and athleticism of local youth as they fly, spin, and whirl their way through the air!
