Wetaskiwin Word Weavers entertained the residents of Peace Hills Lodge with stories and music on Sept. 20, to celebrate Culture Days. The authors delighted in presenting humour everyone could relate to, while musician Peggy Trost, was able to match songs with readings.
My Horse Fly was a memory from Joyce Sjogren’s childhood, that didn’t go as planned.
To the music of The Streak, Isabel Didriksen read the true story of a Missing Resident (from a care facility). Greg Karenko read the very imaginative Sci-Fi, I Like Peas. Lori Feldberg’s story, Flying for My Life, was from a fly’s perspective and the hilarious song, The Fly gave us laughs on two fronts. Two Little Boys, was a memory from Louise Towler of kids and spring meltwater, with predictable results.
Concert music issued in Colleen McGinnis with a memory of a music exam and the treat she enjoyed afterwards, in Banana Split. Yum! While Glenn Smith was unable to attend, his story, Incredible Car Journey, was much enjoyed, the memory pertaining to his grandparent’s trek to the coast in 1928 with eight young kids crowded into a 1927 Model T Ford.
Wetaskiwin Word Weavers enjoyed the event so much that they anticipate doing readings in the future at other senior facilities.
