Wetaskiwin community members gathered at Diamond Jubilee Park on Saturday, Sept. 30, to commemorate the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
The morning began with having two tipis erected in the park, followed by a communal smudge and pipe ceremony.
Participants donning orange took part in the Orange Shirt Day walk from Diamond Jubilee Park to the Cairn at the water tower.
Back at the park after the walk, guests participated in a communal round dance, pow wow dance demonstrations and heard words of learning from Katherine Swampy.
Free Bannock with tea, coffee and juice was provided.
Each year on Sept. 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation honours the children who never returned home, survivors of residential schools and their families and communities.
