No verdict yet in killing of Grande Prairie man in Ermineskin

A verdict has yet to be reached for a Red Deer woman accused with murder whose trial was set for March 4 to 15 at the Wetaskiwin Court of King’s Bench.

Brianna Ruf-Dietz, 34, is charged with the first/second degree murder of Tyler Johnson, 26, of Grande Prairie.

Johnson’s remains were found in a burned down house near Ermineskin Cree Nation on March 8, 2021.

Johnson had been missing since Feb. 4, 2021. At the time, his disappearance was considered out of character.

The Major Crime Unit’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding Johnson’s death led to obtaining an arrest warrant for Ruf-Dietz.

Ruf-Dietz’s trial started on March 4, and was adjourned on March 8.

According to court documents, there was a warrant for her committal.

A court date was set for March 19. The file information doesn’t indicate if the accused was present for the hearing of not.

The case was adjourned again, with the next court date scheduled for April 9, to set a date for sentencing.
