The City of Wetaskiwin now has a new family physician.

Dr. Emadeddin Ben Khalifa has joined the Wetaskiwin Tower Clinic, said Alberta Health Services (AHS) in a media release on March 28.

Khalifa will also be joining the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre team as a general practitioner and surgical assistant, according to the release.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Ben Khalifa to the dedicated and highly trained team of health professionals who serve our community,” said Rick Wilson, MLA for Maskwacis-Wetaskiwin and minister of Indigenous Relations.

Khalifa received his medical education in Libya.

He is the 28th physician serving the community and surrounding areas.

“I’m excited to work in Wetaskiwin and to learn more about the city, people, and culture,” said Khalifa, whose hobbies include soccer and snorkelling.

He invites new patients to call the clinic at 780-352-9700 to arrange a meet and greet. New patients will be required to complete and submit a new patient intake form.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to recruit physicians across its Central Zone to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities.

They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.
