The City of Wetaskiwin will be recording and publishing all recordings of Wetaskiwin City Council’s regular and committee of the whole meetings to the City of Wetaskiwin’s YouTube channel.

The city says they decided to start this initiative as part of their mandate to ensure transparency in the municipal government process.

For the past several years the city has been sharing council meeting update videos on their YouTube channel, however, the addition of recorded city council meetings will allow viewers to revisit discussions by Council and Administration on topics brought forward during council meetings.

“Publishing our meetings to the city’s YouTube channel will help our residents and businesses review our meetings when it is convenient for them,” said City of Wetaskiwin Mayor, Tyler Gandam. “It’s important to Council that we be as open and transparent as possible. This is another way that we can ensure our decisions—and the debate that goes along with it—are available to all of you.”

In addition to viewing council meetings following their publication on YouTube, members of the public can attend council meetings virtually. In person attendance is not available at this time due to provincial COVID-19 restrictions.

Regular city council and committee of the whole meetings are held every second and fourth Monday of each month. In the summer council meetings will be reduced to once per month.
