City of Wetaskiwin Mayor Tyler Gandam has proclaimed the month of June as Recreation and Parks Month in the city. This initiative is to encourage Wetaskiwin residents to safely explore the City’s greenspaces and recreational facilities.

The City states that recreation and parks enhance quality of life, active living, leisure education, and lifelong learning. With this and many other social and tourism aspects of recreation and parks, mental, social, physical, and ecological wellbeing are benefits of having these spaces.

“We are so fortunate to have a number of parks, trails, and greenspaces in Wetaskiwin to enjoy year-round,” says Gandam.

“Physical activity and socializing in our parks is so important to our mental health and helps our community thrive.”

In honour of Recreation and Parks Month the City of Wetaskiwin’s recreation department is hosting a scavenger hunt every week in June.

The City encourages anyone accessing recreation programs or park spaces to follow current public health restrictions.
