Falun raises thousands for Ukraine in fundraiser dinner

The Falun community came out in droves on March 18, 2022, to the Falun Community Hall for a fundraiser dinner supporting Ukraine. The dinner featured a feast of Ukrainian foods and was available for eating in with entertainment from a local band and the Ukrainian Mandolin Orchestra, or take out.

Organizers of the fundraiser including Tim Belec, says that they were overwhelmed by the public support and generosity of the community.

So many community members showed up to support the event that even after adding additional tickets multiple times, organizers eventually had to turn away people at the door.

“Advanced tickets sold out early and quickly,” said Belec.

“We added another 50, they sold quickly, we added another 50 take out—gone in 1.5 hours. We had to turn away many at the door, could have sold probably twice as many.”

Belec said they eventually had to turn people away because they couldn’t keep up with the amount of food and the speed of putting it out.

In total Belec states that the final count for how much the event raised was just short of $9,700.

Because of how much the community raised in addition to sending money to the Canada Ukraine Foundation, a portion of the money was also donated to the Ukrainian Volunteers of Edmonton—a group of Ukrainian ex-patriots who are filling a C-130 plane with urgently needed medical supplies.
