Members of Leduc RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (LCRU) caught two suspects in action as they were cutting a catalytic converter off a vehicle in the Edmonton International Airport parking lot.

The suspects were caught by LCRU conducting pro-active patrols in the airport parking lots around 10 a.m. on Oct. 12. Officers arrested the suspects and seized a fraudulent firearms license, a Sawzall and the cut catalytic converter.

Timothy John Stuparyk, 36, a resident of Leduc County was charged with:

Tyler Rae Nolan, 26, a resident of Edmonton, was charged with theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

Following a judicial hearing both were released from custody and Sturparyk was scheduled to appear in Leduc provincial court Dec. 8, 2022, while Nolan was scheduled to appear in court Dec. 10, 2022.

Both Stuparyk and Nolan didn’t attend Leduc provincial court on their scheduled appearance dates and now have warrants out for their arrest for failing to attend court.

Stuparyk is described as:

• Five-foot-ten-inches tall;

• 174 lbs;

• With brown eyes and brown hair.

Nolan is described as:

• Five-foot-nine-inches tall;

Leduc RCMP has a catalytic converter theft prevention program which they introduced in partnership with the City of Leduc in December 2021. The program involves etching the last eight digits of the VIN into the vehicle’s catalytic converter which serves as an identifier that will assist police in identifying it if it is stolen.
