Leduc RCMP have arrested and charged a Leduc resident following an incident where a stolen vehicle fled from police.

At approximately 12 a.m. on March 2, 2023, a Leduc RCMP member on patrol noticed a vehicle with an obstructed license plate in the area of Highway 625 and QEII in Nisku, Alta. The officer initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle, which was later determined to have been stolen out of Camrose, Alta., and it fled from police.

Members of the Leduc Crime Reduction Unit (LCRU) and general duty located the suspect vehicle later that day approximately around noon in the area of 49 Street and 51 Ave in Leduc. When officers approached the vehicle the driver and passenger exited it and the driver attempted to flee on foot when he was told he was under arrest.

A member of the LRCU caught him and took him into custody. A search of the vehicle showed numerous pieces of stolen mail and a pry bar.

Roger Cooley Mccann, 41, of Leduc was charged with:

• Flight from police;

• Possession of stolen property under $5,000;

• Possession of stolen mail;

• And failure to comply with a release order (x3).

Following a judicial hearing Mccann was remanded into custody and he is scheduled to appear in Leduc Provincial Court March 9, 2023.
