Friday June 19, 2020 Leslie Wilson and Glenn Rueker, with Teleconnect International set up in the Walmart parking lot in Wetaskiwin, Alta. Behind them was a small school bus which they set the goal of filling with non-perishable donations to the Salvation Army Food Bank in Wetaskiwin.
They named their donation mission, “Stuff the Bus.”
The goal was to fill the bus entirely or gather 500 Ibs in donations. As they accepted donations from their spot on the far end of the Wetaskiwin Walmart parking lot, they acknowledged that the non-perishable donations from shoppers were slow to roll in that day.
This didn’t deter their enthusiasm for the cause however. “We just felt there was a need, and thought, you know what, we are going to try to fill that need,” said Wilson.
On Friday afternoon Rueker and Wilson said that their cash donations were ahead of what they predicted.
They were collecting donations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wetaskiwin Trans Comm School and Charter Bus Line and Teleconnect International Answering Service sponsored the donation effort.
