An annual fundraising ladies golf tournament has raised a total of $7,543 for Wetaskiwin Public Schools. This is the fourth year of the annual fundraiser hosted by Simone Bredlow and Melissa Berg.

Last year the Ladies Golf Scramble was also held at the Montgomery Glen Golf Course in Wetaskiwin, Alta., and had a total of 44 ladies participating with a fundraising total of $3,355.

This year’s fundraising total doubled last years, and the tournament saw 56 women in total golfing.

Bredlow says that in addition to having more women participate, the community as a whole came together and donated.

“I feel extremely proud, this was our fourth annual and this is the most money we have raised,” says Bredlow. “Considering it was a COVID year this is amazing, so very proud of our community.”

The funds raised will be going towards the Education Plus Fund and food programs in Wetaskiwin Public Schools.

The Education Plus Fund is run through the Wetaskiwin Public School district and goes towards helping kids afford extra school activities that they may not have been able to including funding them to participate on a sports team, field trip fees, art activities and more.

Bredlow says that next year the tournament will be opening up to men as well as an effort to raise even more funds for their efforts.
