An individual has been arrested following a chase and then a deliberate crash.

Shortly after noon on Oct. 12, Ponoka RCMP were following up on a vehicle driving erratically in the community, but were not able to locate it, explained Cpl. Laurel Scott from RCMP K Division.

About 15 minutes later, a Maskwacis RCMP officer spotted the suspect vehicle, this time driving erratically along Hwy. 2A north of Ponoka. The officer attempted a traffic stop, following the vehicle onto Range Road 252.

However, the vehicle fled and the officer followed for a short distance.

It was then that the suspect vehicle stopped and then reversed into the RCMP truck.

The officer did go to hospital for treatment of some minor injuries.

The suspect driver was taken to hospital and then released into police custody, while a passenger was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Scott added that no update was available on the that person’s condition.

The driver was arrested and is presently facing charges of dangerous driving, however the incident is still being investigated and there could be further charges.
