Mayor Tyler Gandam: Season’s Greetings

I won’t end 2022 by pretending it was an easy year just because we have begun to return to “normal.” This past year was tough for many, as we continue to contend with an ongoing pandemic, inflation and increasing costs of living, and seemingly endless stream of bad news — both at home and abroad.

I won’t end 2022 by pretending it was an easy year just because we have begun to return to “normal.” This past year was tough for many, as we continue to contend with an ongoing pandemic, inflation and increasing costs of living, and seemingly endless stream of bad news — both at home and abroad.

With all that taken into consideration, I take comfort in the small victories that we have achieved, as city council and as a community.

This past year, we saw a return to in-person events, something that we have all been desperately missing. Canada Day was a triumphant return, and the City Open House was once again hosted for residents to come, ask questions, and interact with City personnel. We also saw great success and value with our engagement sessions for the 2023 municipal budget. I cannot express how much I appreciate those who come out to discuss the budget with us and share their feedback. This engagement helps council in making important decisions, especially when we are faced with an upcoming year of increasing costs.

We look forward to having even more opportunities for engagement in 2023 and growing the community collaboratively.

The new year will provide new challenges for everyone, as well as new opportunities. Through it all, it is important for us to remember the golden rule: treat people how you want to be treated. Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind.

In difficult times, the most important thing we can do is have empathy and compassion, and remember that the strength of our community is in our relationships with one another.

From mine to yours,

Happy New Year.
