Pigeon Lake Watershed Management Plan has been named the 2021 Alberta Emerald Award recipient for water initiatives.

The Emerald Awards showcase those who raise the bar in addressing local, regional, and global and environmental climate issues.

“We’re excited to be celebrating our 30th anniversary, and in many ways, it feels like our work is just beginning,” says Gregory Caswell, Executive Director of the Alberta Emerald Foundation.

“This year’s shortlist and recipients are prime examples of the inspiring environmental leaders and innovative work taking place in our province. We’re honoured to showcase their accomplishments through the Emerald Awards and our year-round programming.”

The Pigeon Lake Watershed Management Plan identifies a broad range of beneficial practices, actions, and initiatives aimed at preserving, enhancing, and protecting the watershed and lake.

“Working together is a critical theme of the Plan. It requires ongoing engagement, evaluation, and course corrections,” says Robert Gibbs, Chair of the Pigeon Lake Watershed Management Plan Steering Committee.

“We are proud of our science-based plan and the ongoing research and monitoring that informs our actions for a health watershed, healthy lake, and healthy community.”

The Pigeon Lake Watershed Management Plan Steering Committee says that they are grateful to receive this award and are humbled by the degree of cooperation and good will from individuals, municipalities, Maskwacis Cree Four Nations leadership, the Chamber of Commerce and from their healthy lake partners.
