RCMP Major Crimes Unit lay charges after a murder and arson investigation in Wetaskiwin County

Three individuals have been charged with murder with disregard for human life.

On June 23, 2021, just after 7:30 a.m. the Wetaskiwin RCMP were called to a structure fire on a rural property in the Usona district of the County of Wetaskiwin.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene to investigate and on June 24, 2021 human remains were located at the property.

On June 25 and autopsy was completed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton. The results of the autopsy are pending.

Linden Buffalo, 31, and Jake Green, 36, of Maskwacis Alta., and Donovan Lightning, 28, of Wetaskiwin Alta., have been charged with the murder of Clifford Stauffer and Arson with disregard for human life.

Lightning, Green, and Buffalo have been remanded in custody until their court appearance on June 29, 2021.
