Two fires in the City of Wetaskiwin have sent one person to hospital.

The incident took place on Friday, April 26 around 3 p.m. in the southern part of the city.

Amber Coleman, the city’s fire chief, told Pipestone Flyer in an email that there were two separate fires in the city, the cause of which is still under investigation.

Coleman further added that a power pole was also slightly damaged due to the fire.

Early reports from the scene indicated that the fire was under control around 4 p.m.

The County of Wetaskiwin, Leduc County, and some other regions have recently announced a fire ban due to the high risks of wildfires as a result of dry weather in the province.
