Wetaskiwin RCMP were making patrols on Sept. 15, at approximately 4 p.m. when a white Ford Mustang was observed driving at extreme speeds on Highway 795.

A vehicle check then revealed it had been reported stolen out of Edmonton and given the subject’s driving behaviour posing a risk to public safety the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and an Alberta RCMP helicopter were activated to conduct surveillance on the stolen vehicle.

RCMP were able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device on the vehicle where it then lost control and drove off the road.

Police arrested the two occupants of the vehicle without further incident.

Dylan Zachary Lewis, 31, of Edmonton, Alta., was charged with dangerous driving and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Lewis was taken before a justice of the peace and released from custody with conditions. He is set to appear in court on Oct. 14, 2022 at Wetaskiwin Provincial Court.

The second occupant was later released without charges.
