Wetaskiwin RCMP seize stolen property following search warrant of Wetaskiwin County property

Over $100,000 in stolen property recovered.

Wetaskiwin RCMP, Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, Maskwacis RCMP and the K-Division RCMP Auto theft unit executed a search warrant on a rural Wetaskiwin County property Sept. 17, 2021, resulting in the seizure of stolen property.

The RCMP were conducting an investigation into a suspected chop shop on the property.

Following the execution of the search warrant, five stolen trucks, an enclosed trailer, and industrial generator unit, three dirt bikes, an other stolen property was recovered. The approximate value of the property recovered was over $100,000.

As a result of the investigation 31-year-old, Chris Andrew Gilchrist of Wetaskiwin, Alta., has been charged with:

• Possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x6);

• Possession of stolen property under $5,000 (x5);

• And alter/destroy/remove a vehicle identification number.

Gilchrist was brought before a justice of the peace and was released on a $2,000 promise to pay a release order. He is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin provincial court on Oct. 12, 2021.
