Following a three-year hiatus because of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Wetaskiwin & County Sports Hall of Fame is set to hold a banquet and induction ceremony Saturday April 15, 2023.
Multiple individual athletes, community sport volunteers and a team who were scheduled to be inducted in 2020 will finally receive their recognition.
The 2020 inductees include:
Duggan is to be inducted in the athlete category for her achievements in women’s ice hockey and her record setting career at St. Lawrence University.
York will be inducted in the athlete category for his hockey career as a goalie playing in the AJHL, ECHL, AHL and NHL.
Snedden is to be inducted as a community builder for her volunteer efforts in the Wetaskiwin community in a variety of sports and Wetaskiwin sporting organizations.
1981 Juvenile Men’s Avalanche Volleyball Team
This team is being recognized for their accomplishments including winning the 1981 Provincial Championships and a bronze medal at the 1981 Canadian Championships.
Hok is being inducted in the builder category for his volunteer commitments in Rodeo.
Forth is also being inducted in the builder category for his many years of volunteering in Stock Car Racing and coaching youth bowling.
This will be the Wetaskiwin & County Sports Hall of Fame’s 15th induction ceremony. The Sports Hall of Fame was established in 2006 as a way to preserve Wetaskiwin’s sporting history and to date has inducted 89 athletes, builders and teams.
Those who have inducted have their plaques on display in Co-op Place.
