When it comes to garbage day, all you have to do is remember to get your cart to the curb, right?

Not so fast.

To ensure solid waste collection goes smoothly in Wetaskiwin, the City asks homeowners to follow a few guidelines.

First, put out your bin – with the lid closed tight – by 7 a.m. on your designated collection day. (Trouble remembering your day? Bookmark or print this handy collection map)

Second, be sure to position the bin at least one metre from any other object.

Those who are struggling to keep their garbage bin lids closed can request a new one by calling the City’s Operations Facility at 780.361.4436.

Wetaskiwin’s user-pay approach to waste handling means residents pay for waste services based on the volume of garbage they generate. With weekly garbage pick-up, it’s important to know how much garbage your family accumulates each week to choose the correct size – this will ensure your bin isn’t packed too tightly, is not too heavy, and the lid can close properly to prevent attracting animals.
