Show your community spirit and creativity: the City of Wetaskiwin’s second annual Canada Day Decorating Contest is back!

It’s time to fly your flags and festoon your homes and businesses in red and white … the City of Wetaskiwin’s second annual Canada Day Decorating Contest is back!

Launched last year as a way to celebrate the nation’s birthday while maintaining public health protocols, this year promises to be bigger and better – and a great way to bring the whole city into the summer celebration.

Better yet, you’ll also be in the running for a few sweet summer prizes: 10 contest finalists will receive $250 each, with the grant prize winner taking home an additional $500.

“We’re encouraging people to show their community spirit and share with everyone how creative they can be,” says Rachel Rarick, City of WetaskiwinRecreation Program Facilitator.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Decorate: Create a Canada Day vision for your home or business, then engage your family, friends and co-workers to help bring your vision to life.
  2. Photograph: Finish decorating, take a few digital photos showcasing your work, then visit whatifwetaskiwin.ca/canada-day-2021 .
  3. Enter: Complete the online contest entry form and upload an awesome photo of your home or business by June 27.

From the entries, Wetaskiwin city councillors will cast their votes for their favourites, then from the 10 selected semi-finalists, it’s up to you, Wetaskiwin!

Photos of the 10 semi-finalists will be posted by June 30, then through July 7, the community will cast votes to determine a grand prize winner, who’ll take home both bragging rights and $500!

Of course, you don’t have to enter the contest to join the fun – everyone’s welcome to showcase their Canada Day spirit.
