The June 15 open house is a chance to meet the team behind the municipal services supporting the community, ask questions, offer feedback and have a little fun at the same time.

City of Wetaskiwin staff are keen to welcome the return of one of the community’s favourite spring events: the annual City open house.

The Thursday, June 15 open house is a chance to meet the team behind the municipal services supporting the community, ask questions, offer feedback, and have a little fun at the same time.

Drop by the Drill Hall at Co-op Place (4513 50 Ave.). from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to speak with City staff and service-providers, ask questions, learn about policies or procedures, and more.

Recognizing that the public doesn’t often have a chance to interact with City staff, the open house is a chance to share information, including how to locate details you may be unsure how to find.

“If you’re looking for help understanding your tax assessment, want to build a fence but don’t know what permits you need, or are wondering what City projects are planned this year, this where you can get all the answers,” says Sarah Swenson, Communications Assistant with the City of Wetaskiwin.

Representatives from every department are expected, including engineering, finance, parks, bylaw enforcement and others. Staff from City partners like Aquatera, ATCO, Fortis, and the Wetaskiwin Public Library will also be on hand, Swenson says.

“It’s our way of creating a better understanding of what goes on at the City and how residents can find the answers to questions they may have.”

After several years of cancellation due to the pandemic and last year’s postponement into winter due to Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the City is keen to get back on track with its regular spring open house, welcoming the community to come learn more about what goes on in various departments.

And it’s not all business. You’ll also find a free barbecue, refreshments, cake, and plenty of fun, family activities.

“It’s a very family-oriented event, with a bouncy castle and backyard games, as well as swag and some awesome contests and prizes,” Swenson says.
