For a city, there’s more to building community than streets, services, and utilities. Residents, volunteers, and community organizations are a big part of making a community what it is – and what it can be.
It’s with that in mind that the City of Wetaskiwin recently revamped its grant-in-aid program, which supports organizations with grants of between $500 and $10,000 for events or projects that enrich the community and benefit Wetaskiwin as a whole.
As part of its Corporate Business Plan, the City identified the importance of expanding organizations’ access to grants as a key tool in building and supporting Wetaskiwin’s community. The update grant-in-aid policy aims to make it easier for organizations to receive grants for events designed and delivered for the general public that attract visitors, significantly contribute to the local economy, promote volunteerism, and add value to the community of Wetaskiwin.
Here’s how it works:
Open to non-profits and community organizations, applications for the 2023 Fall Community Grant Funding program are being accepted until 10 a.m. on Oct. 1. Eligibility does not guarantee funding. Grants will be awarded based on the number of eligible applicants and available funding in each year.
Funding may assist with expenses and/or costs such as event or project materials, lighting or sound equipment, insurance, advertising, honorariums, venue rental, etc.

- A complete submission includes the Community Grant Program Application Form and supplementary details including a list of executive / board members, financial statements, last filed annual general return and if applicable, meeting minutes indicating approval to sponsor the application by a non-registered group.
- To submit your application and supporting documentation, email recreation@wetaskiwin.ca or mail/drop off to: Manluk Centre, 4514 50 Ave., Box 6210, Wetaskiwin, Alberta T9A 2E9.
- All complete applications will be reviewed by the City, with applicants having the option to participate in a 10-minute question-and-answer session with staff.
- Applicants will be notified of the result in November, and while there’s no appeal of the decision, unsuccessful applicants may revise and resubmit applications for the next intake cycle in April 2024.
