City of Wetaskiwin Municipal Election results finalized

Councillors were sworn into council Monday Oct. 25, 2021.

Municipal Election results for the City of Wetaskiwin have been finalized and confirmed as of Friday Oct. 22, 2021.

The election resulted in the re-election of incumbent Mayor Tyler Gandam, with 1,876 votes total. Gandam beat out three other candidates for the position including former city councillor Joe Branco, Jenn Moriartey, and Craig Haavaldsen.

Six councillors out of 16 candidates were elected to City of Wetaskiwin Council where they will serve alongside Mayor Gandam.

The new city council includes:

• Wayne Neilson, 1,895 votes;

• Gabrielle Blatz, 1,783 votes;

• Bill Elliot, 1,716 votes;

• Dean Billingsley, 1,597 votes;

• Karen Aberle, 1,384 votes;

• And Kevin Lonsdale, 1,362 votes.

The newly formed city council includes two new councillors from last term, Bill Elliot, who has previously served as Mayor of the City of Wetaskiwin, and Karen Aberle. They are taking the council spots of Branco and Alan Hilgartner.

Councillors were sworn into council Monday Oct. 25, 2021 before their first city council meeting of the new term.
