Council divided over fire department 40th Anniversary Celebration budget

Councillors Tanni Doblanko and Audrey Kelto were opposed to the motion.

A maximum $30,000 budget was approved by Leduc County council for the Nisku Fire Station and Leduc County Fire Station 40th Anniversary Celebration. However, councillors are saying the budget should be gone over again to try and find some efficient ways to slim it down.

Councillors Tanni Doblanko and Audrey Kelto were opposed to the motion.

The funds are coming from the Leduc and Regional Landfill Rebate.

“I think this is a very generous budget I’m wondering if it’s two generous,” said Doblanko.

“Not that I don’t support every firefighter out there It’s pretty rich,” Kelto added.

Some of the most expensive items within the budget are: $4,480 for a meal at the Nisku Recreation Centre, $8,800 for golf shirts, $2,200 for coins, $1,650 for etched beer mugs/glasses and $1,020 for a smokie and Gatorade hole for the golf tournament.

The proposed budget totals $29,475 but does not include GST.
