Lakedell 4-H Light Horse club has been thriving through the winter!
On December 16 we held our community service activity. The club went to visit and sing Christmas Carols at the Seasons Retirement Center in Wetaskiwin. I think we sounded pretty good and the residents enjoyed it very much.
Also in December we had our Christmas party at Lakedell Hall. We had a gift exchange, a potluck lunch and played games. It is always nice to celebrate with our 4-H family. We always enjoy our ride nights with our talented coaches: Tony Vandenberg, Janelle Leinweber and Jennifer Stephenson.
In January we continued our ride nights, but one of our clinics had to be cancelled due to the cold weather.
February was crazy busy for the club! We started it off with club level public speaking! The competition was fierce! For Juniors first place was Addison McKinney; second was a tie between Rylin Klatt and Taylor Heilman. Addison and Taylor went on to compete in their beef clubs. So Rae Dennis and Rylin Klatt represented our club at the District level in Wetaskiwin. For Intermediate speakers, Quaid McKinney earned 1st place, second was awarded to Kamryn Klatt and in third was Wyatt Vokler. Since Quaid went on in his beef club, Kamryn and Wyatt went on to compete at districts. For our Senior Public Speakers, first place was earned by Mackenzie Denshoiff and she went on to compete at districts.
We also had several members complete presentations this year. Congratulations to all the speakers and presenters, it was amazing to see such courageous young speakers!
Some of our club members helped out with the Family Day Activities hosted by Lakedell Ag Society. They had a visit from a live Penguin and fantastic fire works.
As we headed into March, three of our members took part in the 4-H ski trip and travelled to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Revelstoke, BC for a fun weekend! At the same time several of our younger members got to participate in the Regional Winter Camp at Battle Lake. What a fun winter break that is!
Unfortunately most of our riding time was cancelled in February as it was too cold to haul. We had a successful bottle drive and tire recycling fundraiser. We want to thank the community for supporting us the way you do! If you have tires, we will continue to organize tire recycling in the coming months so feel free to give us a call! As we head into Spring our club will get really busy as we gear up for our achievement day and spring shows!
