Looming provincial election includes boundary changes for Wetaskiwin

New constituency of Maskwacis Wetaskiwin comes into existence after election

The upcoming provincial election is already the topic of debate at many coffee shops and restaurants around Alberta. But voters in and near Wetaskiwin have more reasons than usual to be interested.

The constituency boundaries have been changed for the City and County of Wetaskiwin and the existing constituency of Wetaskiwin Camrose will be replaced here by the new constituency of Maskwacis Wetaskiwin.

This new constituency will stretch out much further west than in the past, all the way to the east side of Pigeon Lake. It also runs fairly far south of the city to Maskwacis, then quite far northeast towards Rollyview.

The constituency of Drayton Valley Devon will be pushed back west, also losing the region between Pigeon Lake and Buck Lake, which becomes part of the Rocky Mtn. House Sundre constituency. Interestingly, residents who live west of Pigeon Lake will be in the same constituency as residents of Sundre.

It’s not clear to this writer how, when or if the provincial government has provided printed information to voters here about these changes; readers may want to clip this story and keep it for reference.
