This year an outstanding group will be inducted into the Wetaskiwin and County Sports Hall of Fame.

The 2018 Inductees includes: Jerry Bremner in the Athlete category, one of the most decorated chuckwagon drivers of all time; Al Clemmer in the Builder category, a life-long volunteer and organizer in the community of Alder Flats; Rod Fonteyne in the Athlete category, an accomplished hockey player who spent his life involved in playing and coaching the sport; the 2006 Wetaskiwin High School Sabres Football Team, the first and only WCHS football team to win the provincial title.

This will be the 13th induction ceremony in the Wetaskiwin and County Sports Hall of Fame’s history. The Sports Hall of Fame was established in 2006 and to date has inducted 80 athletes, builders and teams. If you actually counted the all the teams’ members it would be over 300 individuals.

The Wetaskiwin and County Sports Hall of Fame is helping to preserve Wetaskiwin’s sporting history for future generations. Plaques of those who have been inducted since 2006 are proudly displayed in the Wetaskiwin arena. Information on each of the previous inductees can be found on the Wetaskiwin and County Sports Hall of Fame website on the internet at www.wetaskiwnsportsfame.com.

Profiles of each of the 2018 inductees will run in upcoming issues of The Wetaskiwin Pipestone Flyer.
