A group of advocates is holding the first annual Hate to Hope Gift of Warmth winter clothing drive for the homeless community.
They are accepting donations today and tomorrow, Nov. 12 and 13, in the Wetaskiwin Walmart’s parking lot.
Hate to Hope is partnering with Samson Cree Nation Mens Advisory and Samson Cree Nation Womens advisory.
”There are a total of 62 homeless people in Wetaskiwn,” said Chevi Rabbit with Hate to Hope.
“18 are Indigenous. My goal is to give all 62 coats. Back in 2019, I was able to collect 150 new coats. I’m hoping to help those with less this winter.”
The group is accepting winter-coats, mitts, snow pants, socks and toques as well as gift cards. The recipient will be Open Doors.
”Our goal is to give every homeless person in Wetaskiwin something warn to wear. Let’s show that Wetaskiwin is a city that cares,” said Rabbit.
