Preliminary hearing date set for Applegarth

Ryan Jake Applegarth appeared briefly before the Ponoka Provincial Court over CCTV from remand on April 16, 2021 to be informed of the dates for his preliminary hearing.

Applegarth is charged with the second degree murder of Chantelle Firingstoney who was killed in Ponoka on Nov. 5, 2020.

Applegarth smoothed down his hair, answered “O.K.” when he was told the preliminary hearing was set for Nov. 2 and 3, turned quickly and left.

Applegarth is also charged with the first degree murder of Jamison Samuel Louis, 34, who was killed in Wetaskiwin on Jan. 3, 2020.

His arraignment has been scheduled for April 20 at the Wetaskiwin Court of Queen’s Bench.
