The Wetaskiwin Integrated Traffic Unit (ITU) is recognizing the hard work and dedication of one of their officers in the first annual Cst. James Lloyd Lundblad Memorial Award.
Cst. Lundblad was working for the traffic services unit at the time of his on-duty death on May 5, 2009. He was killed while attempting to enforce traffic safety at the scene of a motor vehicle collision that occurred near Millet, according to the RCMP.
The first recipient of the memorial award, which is awarded internally by Wetaskiwin ITU, is Cst. Jason Wierenga.
“Wetaskiwin Integrated Traffic recognizes excellence, dedication and initiative in the field of traffic safety,” stated a release.
“The purpose of this award is to identify and commend active enforcement personnel for their work to improve road safety through education, enforcement, training and/or community-based programs.
“The award is given annually to an RCMP member that exemplifies outstanding achievement in the field of traffic services.”
The Wetaskiwin ITU patrols the jurisdictions of Maskwacis, Wetaskiwin, Bashaw, Camrose and Killam.
