Wetaskiwin RCMP charge 2 males with firearms-related crime

Wetaskiwin RCMP charged two males with several firearms-related offences after conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle driving erratically within city limits on Aug. 31.

The Wetaskiwin Crime Reduction Unit, assisted by general duty officers, stopped the vehicle, and subsequently seized a prohibited firearm and two loaded magazines.

Two occupants of the vehicle, Joe Gandman, 31, a resident of Wetaskiwin, and Darrell Saunter, 46, a resident of Edmonton, were arrested.

Gandam was charged with six firearms offences and released on a release order to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on Sept. 28.

Saunter was charged with breaching conditions of parole, six firearms offences, dangerous driving and failure to comply with a firearms prohibition.

Saunter was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody and will appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on Sept. 14.
