It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to a wonderful husband, brother, uncle and friend. Gerald was predeceased by his parents, William and Hilda Burghardt; sisters in law, Marjorie Stauffer, Deanna Astner and Lois Burghardt. Gerald will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Doupe); a brother, Vernon of Oregon, Marvelyn Ruer of Wetaskiwin, brothers in law, Harley Astner of Wetaskiwin and Murray Stauffer of Red Deer; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Gerald was born in Wetaskiwin in the "Prince of Wales" Hotel and he farmed most of his life west of Wetaskiwin, enjoying his 'pet cows' and mixed farming. He loved music and played the organ at Emmaus Lutheran Church Brightview for 56 years until the church closed in 2006. Gerald and Dorothy retired from farming in 1993 and moved to Wetaskiwin, and in 2015 they became residents of Seasons Retirement Village. Burial has taken place.
