September 30, 2017

BORZUSH, Margareth Barbara (nee Hay, Melnikel)

February 15, 1922 ~ September 30, 2017

While surrounded by family, in the evening of September 30, our Dear Mother left this world to join those who are waiting for her in the hereafter. We were blessed for the long time we had with her, and we carry precious memories and remember her never-ending love.

Margareth is survived by her children, Margareth (Mike) Sturby, Marlene (Dennis) Noyes, Shirley (Maurice) Fleury, Kenneth Melnikel, Edwin (Lucinda) Melnikel, Katherine (Norman) Breadner, Robert Melnikel, Janet (Paul) Schwab, Donna Rutland, Paul (Ita) Melnikel and Theresa (Curtis) Melnyk. Predeceased by her son, David Melnikel. She is also survived by her step-children, Marlene Hilbom, Beverly (Lionel) Lisafeld, Russell Borzush; 29 Grandchildren and numerous Great Grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ella Hay and several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Margareth and her brothers, Ralph and Gordon were born to Rudolf and Clara (Burghardt) Hay of Gwynne, AB. Her mother passed away when she was 10 years old. Life on the farm was hard without her mother but there were still many happy, good times.

Margareth met her first husband, Bernhard "Ben" Melnikel at a dance in Millet, AB. They were married in 1943 and moved to what was to become their family farm, 8 miles west of Millet until 1962 when they moved to Saskatoon, SK. She was very happy when they moved out of the tiny log house into their brand new home on the Millet farm, in 1950.

Margareth always had a big beautiful garden and hosted many family gatherings. She was an expert at sewing, crocheting, knitting, needlework and of course, baking and cooking. All of her children and grandchildren have several of her creations to remember her by. Ben passed away in 1969.

Margareth married Dan Borzush in Saskatoon in 1973. They spent several happy years travelling, dancing and enjoying family gatherings until Dan passed away in 1989. Mom remained in Saskatoon until 1993 when she moved back to the Millet area and from there into Wetaskiwin. Her last few years were very hard due to a broken leg, broken arm, limited mobility and finally, a broken hip.

Margareth's family would like to thank all the staff at The Good Shepherd Home in Wetaskiwin and the nurses and doctors at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and the staff at Red Deer Hospital for their kindness and care the last few years.

A Celebration of Life honouring Margareth was held on October 10, 2017 St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Patience (Millet), Alberta with Interment in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Peter's Graveyard Fund or The Cross Cancer Institute.
