June 9, 1959 - December 12, 2023
In loving memory ~
1959 ~ 2023
We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Terry Walker, on December 12, 2023. Terry was a loving husband, beloved dad, grandpa, son, brother, uncle and friend to many.
He was born in Calgary on June 9, 1959, and moved with his parents to Wetaskiwin, spending his years growing up there with his two brothers, before eventually moving to Millet area after his marriage.
Terry has always had a great love for all sports, especially hockey, and was a die hard fan of the Oilers - never giving up on them winning another cup. This will be their year, from Terry's mouth to God's ear! Go Oilers Go! He also coached hockey as a young man in Wetaskiwin and Millet.
Terry met his wife, Vickie, while coaching a ladies fastball team, and they were married on December 22, 1984. They bought their first home in Millet where they had their daughters, Kristen and Kyla, before moving to an acreage outside of Millet where they welcomed their third child, son Steven.
Terry was involved in his community as a volunteer fire fighter, and started coaching hockey again, when Steven started at age five! He spent a few years on the Millet minor hockey board. Terry loved coaching the kids, and teaching them the game of hockey, from "tom thumb" to "midget" levels. He considered all of them "his boys", and a lot of them spent many hours after hockey games playing shinny on the driveway, or having sleepovers in our basement.
Terry was a very involved father, and his family always came first. He loved watching the girls figure skate, play ball and soccer. Terry loved camping and spent many weekends and vacations doing that, and today that continues as we often camp with our kids and spend many hours at the lake on the boat with them.
Terry had a love for all things music, and spent hours putting together playlists. Any genre of music was in his playlist, and we often asked to get his music going at any gathering we went to. Two or three of his playlists were in the Top Ten most downloaded playlists on Spotify.
Terry was an easygoing, happy guy who always had time to visit with his family, friends, coworkers and customers. He was a very hard worker, was well respected by his peers, and always left people feeling good.
Terry was predeceased by his paternal and maternal grandparents, and his brother-in-law, Dwight.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 39 years, Vickie; his beloved children, Kristen (Jordan), Kyla (Kyle), and Steven (Maia); grandchildren, Cade, Logan and Reagan; parents, Gordon and Anna Walker; brothers, Bryan (Jeanette), and Darrell (Marlene); in-laws, Morley and Gayle Coopersmith, Dawn (John), Laurie (Jay), Darcy (Dave), Clark (Nancy), Maureen (Larry), and Leanne as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and the many friends who loved him.
A Celebration of Terry's Life will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church (4910 Northmount Drive, Wetaskiwin), with interment to follow at the Wetaskiwin Memorial Cemetery (4701 63 Avenue).
In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to KidSport Alberta (PO Box 36107 Lakeview RPO Calgary, Alberta, T3E 7C6 or www.kidsportcanada.ca/alberta/) or the Alberta Cancer Foundation (1331 29 St NW, Calgary, Alberta, T2N 4N2).
