MLA Mark Smith: Alberta’s economy is on a tear

According to Statistics Canada’s latest labour force survey, Alberta created 15,000 new jobs in July, marking nine consecutive months of job growth for our province. In total, Alberta has now created 133,500 new jobs since 2021. Further, in July, Alberta’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.8 per cent. This means that for the first time since 2015, Alberta’s unemployment is lower than the Canadian average, which currently sits at 4.9 per cent.

Well, I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather these past couple weeks. Sometimes we are so busy, we forget to stop and appreciate the good days while they last. There sure has been enough rain days so we were due for some heat. Speaking of rain, flooding has yet again wreaked havoc on our infrastructure and has moved many bridges, culverts, and roads up on the list of priorities which displaces other projects that are also in need of an upgrade but still have some life left.

The weather was beautiful, and the cars were fast at the EIR NASCAR Bayer 300 on Saturday, July 23, 2022. Marc-Antoine Camirand raced his No. 96 GM Paillie car across the finish line for the win. The race was a great finale to EIR NASCAR week in Wetaskiwin. Throughout the week prior to the race the public was able to take part in meet and greets, BBQ’s and shopping deals at local businesses.
